Darren Quigley (Position - Goalkeeper; Former clubs - Manchester City,
Kildare County; Joined UCD - 2004)
Current Irish U-21 keeper who signed from Kildare County in 2004 after a
spell with Manchester City. Displaced Neil Gallagher midway through our
promotion campaign in 2004 and played every single league and FAI Cup match
up until an injury on U-21 duty in Holland in March saw Matt Gregg grab the
position. Made his U-21 debut in the successful Madeira tournament in 2005
and has won five caps to date, and added a B cap in November. (Appearances
– 100, goals 0 as at 12/05/07)
Matt Gregg (Goalkeeper; Torquay United, Crystal Palace, Swansea City, Exeter
City, Bray Wanderers, Bohemians; 2007)
Matt joined as cover for Darren Quigley at the start of the season, but has
made the no 1 jersey his own of late, keeping four clean sheets in seven
games. A former Seagull as well, Matt is one of the most expensive UCD
players ever, having once been signed by Crystal Palace for £400,000.
Before deciding on a professional football career, he also had the option of
a professional cricket career; as a fast bowler with Upton, he once picked
up 9-7. (7/0)
Alan Mahon (Right-back; St Francis; 1995)
The manager’s son, he joined UCD after five league games with St Francis,
who were then manager by one Pete Mahon. Solid and dependable defender,
whose only goal for UCD came in an FAI Cup replay against Rockmount in 1998,
although he was on the mark in the penalty shoot-out victory against Athlone
Town in our promotion/relegation play-off in 2001. Alan is now the sole
survivor from the team which went out on away goals to Bulgarian side
Velbazhd Kyustendil in the 2000 InterToto Cup. (254/1)
Ian Bermingham (Left-back; 2007)
Ian made his debut in injury time in the 3-0 win over Waterford this season,
and has made the left-back position his own since. Links up well with the
attack, putting in some dangerous crosses (7/0)
Conor Kenna (Centre-back; Coventry City, Shelbourne; 2004)
Conor made his debut in 2004 and has belied his years to become an integral
part of the team in such a short time. Called up to the Ireland U-21 squad
for a friendly with Northern Ireland towards the end of last season, but
picked up an injury on his first day of training and was forced to withdraw.
Defensively very strong in the air for such a small player. Was often
played at full back in the 2006 season, and really grew into the role.

Evan McMillan (Centre-back; Mount Merrion; 2006)
Centre back signed from UCD's partner club Mount Merrion, Evan only made the
bench last year, but made his debut against Cork only to be desposed by Ian
Bermingham's form to date. (6/0)
Alan McNally (Centre-back; 1999)
Made his debut in Tolka Park away to Shelbourne in the 1999/2000 season, and
also came on as a sub in UCD’s 5-0 win in Drogheda on the last day of that
campaign, a result which secured UCD European football. Although Alan
didn’t play either InterToto game, he made himself a fixture in the
first-team in 2001/02, scoring a number of important goals, including
winners in Tolka Park and Turner’s Cross. Has been linked with moves to
Cork City and Drogheda United in recent seasons, but has stayed on at
Belfield, and his defensive partnership with Conor Kenna certainly ranks up
with the league’s best. (221/16)
Brian Shortall (Centre-back/centre-mid; 2007)
In his second stint with the college, Shortall has been mainly used in midfield.
Paul Crowley (Centre-mid; Dublin City; 2006)
Combative midfielder who joined UCD following Dublin City’s demise. Was a
regular in the team until sustaining a broken ankle towards the end of last
season, but has recovered to stake his place in the line up this year.
(17/0)
Tony McDonnell (Centre-mid; St Kevin’s Boys; 1994)
UCD’s own captain fantastic, Tony is in his 13th season with UCD and still
going strong. Tony’s presence in midfield is crucial for UCD’s hopes this
season. The longest one-club player in the league, Tony has had a bad
sesaon injury-wise, coming off injured in the first half of his only two
league starts this season. (330/34)
Ronan Finn (Centre-mid; 2005)
Highly promising midfielder who scored in the semi-final and the final of
UCD's successful 2005 U-21 league campaign, and who subsequently scored on
his second senior appearance against Shamrock Rovers in the last game of
that season. An Ireland U-21 international, he is injured for tonight's
match. (29/3)
Shane Fitzgerald (Right-wing; 2007)
Highly promising explosive winger who has terrified many a defender since he
broke through mid season.
Pat McWalter (Right-wing; 2002)
The only Paul Doolin signing left at the club, Podge was UCD’s top scorer
last season with 8 overall (7 in the league). Used either as a tricky
winger or a pacey forward, and has been on the right-wing so far this
season. A decent GAA player too who holds a senior Wicklow county title
medal in Gaelic Football. A cruciate knee ligament sustained five minutes
into our Cup quarter-final in Derry ended his 2006 season, and he is likely
to be out until July. (116/23)
Brian King (Centre-mid; Shelbourne, Kilkenny City; 2007)
Son of former UCD coach and current Irish women's team manager Noel, Brian
signed for UCD this season and has performed well incentre mid when called
on. (5/0)
Derek Doyle (Left-wing; 2005)
Winger who marked his debut with a goal against Dublin City in the League
Cup in 2005, and has made the left wing slot his own since. He is currently
UCDs top scorer with seven, including spectacular strikes against Pats
and Salthill. (50/5)
Shane McFaul (Centre-mid; Notts County, Virginia Beach Mariners; 2007)
Shane played some 50 games for Notts County in Divisions Two and Three in
England before moving to American with the now defunct Virginia Beach
Mariners in the USL First Division (the level below the MLS) and signing for
UCD in the pre-season. (10/0)
Conan Byrne (Forward; 2005)
Conan scored 14 goals for the U-21s in his debut season, including goals in
the semi-final and the final, and followed that up with a goal in the League
Cup Final that year. A shin splints injury blighted his 2006 season, but
he has been rejuvenated playing as a right winger this year where, despite
his lack of pace, he has caused many a defence headaches. (35/2)
Paul Byrne (Forward; Cherry Orchard; 2004)
Made an explosive start to his UCD career with a hat-trick against Shamrock
Rovers in an U-21 league match. Subsequently went on to score 26 goals for
the U-21s to help UCD defeat then holders Cork City in the U-21 final.
Senior goals followed too - one at home to Sligo and two away to Dundalk
meant he finished 2004 with three goals in 75 minutes of senior football.
Continued his form into the Premier Division, scoring five seconds into his
Premier debut in Richmond Park, but injury has hit hard since. However, he
is back to his best this season, and is UCD's top league scorer with six.
(36/12)
Darren Forsyth (Forward; 2007)
Recently promoted from the U21s.
Peter Hynes (Forward; 2007)
Loan signing from Derry.
Paul Murphy (Forward; 2007)
Loan signing from Pats.
Timmy Purcell (Forward; 2006)
Timmy only made two substitute appearances last year, but has been used much
more often as an impact sub this year, and scored the winner away to Derry
and the first goal in our comeback against St Pat's recently, both within
ten minutes of coming on. (12/2)
Conor Sammon (Forward; 2005)
Strong, battling forward who can hold the ball up to great effect. Was top
scorer last season, his first full season, with 8. Has kept that form
going into this season, including an injury time goal against Bray the first
time the sides met. (55/11)
